Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, held a research meeting with the delegation of the University of Oldenburg in Germany, to discuss signing a medical cooperation protocol to establish a unit specialized in conducting comprehensive screening tests for early detection and treatment of hearing impairment and loss in newborn children at the university hospital, in the presence of Ambassador Khaled Galal, Egyptian Ambassador to Germany, Stephen Al-Bani. Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani confirmed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, launched many important health initiatives and programs for children in Egypt, in order to provide them with a healthy and safe life, including audiological screening for early detection and treatment of hearing loss in newborns, as part of the “100 Million” initiative. Which targets all newborns, stressing that this protocol comes within the framework of Sohag University’s keenness to participate positively in presidential initiatives and to contribute to the advancement of the health sector, which has witnessed a real boom and unprecedented support during the past ten years.
The university president explained that, in accordance with this protocol, a unit equipped at the highest level for newborn children will be established to conduct a comprehensive survey for early detection of hearing loss, during which high-quality health care will be provided, and the latest treatment methods will be followed, in cooperation with Rotary Germany, adding that Also based on the protocol, a number of doctors from the Pediatrics Department are being trained, including Dr. Abdel Rahim Abd Rabbo, Head of the Pediatrics Department at the University Hospital, and Dr. Ibtisam Mohamed, a neonatologist at the University Hospital, at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, with the aim of forming an integrated medical team with a high level of competence. To provide therapeutic services to children in the governorate and neighboring Upper Egypt governorates, adding that hearing disability is the fourth largest disability in the world, and according to what the World Health Organization reported, 5% of the world’s population suffers from hearing loss, including 32 million children.
Al-Nomani stressed that this protocol will be the first nucleus for convening many protocols in the medical and academic field, with the aim of developing the health system in Sohag and taking care of the citizen’s health, pointing out that this also comes in light of the strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which is in line with the state’s vision for achieving sustainable development 2030. And the role of Egyptian universities in contributing to the development process in society.
